Our good friends over at Gamertag Radio posted something that the few Diamond members out there might find…interesting? Until now, the Xbox Live Dimaond card…you know, that card that suppose to show that you belong to Live and that you deserve special discounts on Quizno’s Sandwich was freely available to all members. It was announced today that the program is being handed off entirely to Passport Unlimited. Not so important, until you see the fact that it will now cost $6.95/year to own said card.
Now, that wouldn’t be bad, except for the fact I can count the number of people that actually use this thing on one hand. Those that own a card now will have the rights to it for free until their membership expires this year, any renewal thereafter requiring the fee. Really? Is anyone going to use this? Sorry, but I can’t justify this pricing( let alone any pricing) at all.
Press release is included after the jump.
Xbox LIVE® Diamond Card program is gearing up for a couple changes in 2008.
The most significant being that ownership and administration of the Diamond Card program will become wholly run by Passport Unlimited. In conjunction with this change, the card will have an annual subscription attached to it: a nominal sum of $6.95 per year, open to anyone.
Additionally, on the logistical front, beginning January 1, 2008 through February 28, 2008 no new registrations will be processed in order for the registration system to be migrated over to Passport Unlimited. Once completed, the new SSL registration site is anticipated to launch on March 1, 2008. This registration system will allow users to input a credit card for the annual payment.
Furthermore, current members will remain on the program for free until their memberships expire in 2008. Any future renewal will require the new fee. And, members with renewal dates in the Jan – Feb 2008 timeframe will continue with access to the Diamond website (i.e., access the deals, coupons, etc.) during that time.
If you’re a current Diamond Card holder and you wish to renew your card, please return to this site on or after March 1, 2008. We hope you take advantage of the Xbox LIVE Diamond Card program, which brings you discounts and promotions at your favorite stores, restaurants, and other retailers across the country.
