Nintendo finally unveiled pricing and release information for the Wii U this morning during a live-streamed press event in New York.
The system will be available in two models – an 8 GB basic model and a 32 GB premium model. The basic model will be white and include the console, a gamepad, AC adapters, a sensor bar, and a HDMI Cable for $299. The premium model will be black and include everything in the basic model plus a packed-in copy of Nintendoland, a deluxe digital membership which earns online shoppers rebates for downloadable Wii U titles and charging cradles for $349.
While the price is a little too high for me, it’s not crazy high. How much does upgrading an iPhone cost every year? Anyways, if you’re interested in pre-ordering a Wii U, you might want to head down to your local Gamestop. I’m hearing that it’ll only be available for pre-order today. This could just be in my area but just a heads up for anyone interested.
At E3 this year, we got our first look at Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition for Wii U. Warner Bros promised the same story and gameplay of Batman: Arkham City plus all the available downloadable content , a new Battle Armored Tech [B.A.T.] Mode and new armored suits for Batman. Today, they revealed that Catwoman will get some armored suits as well.
Besides that, nothing else was really explained about it. But hey! They also sent official Wii U box art for the game! And it’s really, really blue. Check it out.
The holiday season is quickly approaching and although we still may be waiting to hear solid information about the Wii U, Nintendo has revealed some dates for games coming to their other console this fall.
The highlight game for the 3DS this fall is no doubt Paper Mario: Sticker Star. The next title in the famed RPG series will arrive in North America on November 11. The upcoming entry in the Professor Layton series and first on 3DS, Miracle Mask, will see the light of day on October 28.
Other, lesser known titles also received launch dates including Style Savvy: Trendsetters on October 22, Art Academy: Lessons on October 1 and Crosswords Plus also on October 1.
However in highlighting their fall lineup Nintendo also saw fit to remove a game from the upcoming months’ schedule. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon has been delayed to the first half of 2013.
Some box art for the Wii U versions of Ubisoft titles Assassin’s Creed III, Marvel’s The Avengers: Battle for Earth and Just Dance 4 have surfaced on Amazon.ca.
These could be placeholder images but they look pretty official to me. No comment on the box art has been made from Nintendo or Ubisoft. Either way, check them out and let us know what you think about that blue and yellow system logo.
Konami seems to be pushing its upcoming games strongly at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. They have just released some new screenshots for their upcoming entry of the Castlevania franchise for the 3Ds, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow-Mirror of Fate.
Check them out below and more importantly – did you see that title? A hyphen and a colon. Seems things are getting a little convoluted in the Castlevania franchise.
Nintendo has announced that they will be running an 8-Bit Summer promotion through the Nintendo 3DS’ eShop starting in July.
Running from July 5 through August 1, two new classic games will be added every week to the Virtual Console on the eShop.
The titles mentioned in the trailer below include:
Additionally, Super Mario Land will be on sale for 2.99 through the eShop from June 22 through June 24.
Another announcement from the latest Nintendo Direct video is the release of the latest Professor Layton game here in North America.
Released this February in Japan, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask will be available for North American 3DS owners in November. The game will include 150 puzzles at launch and another puzzle a day for a full year starting with the game’s launch.
Some of the previous puzzles in the Layton series have really made me scratch my head. I can’t wait to see what it does with that extra dimension to confuse me in.
Check out the trailer below.
Nintendo has announced that an XL-sized 3DS will be coming to North America during the summer.
Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed the news during the latest Nintendo Direct video. The Nintendo 3DS XL will be released on August 19, the same day of release as New Super Mario Bros. 2, for $199. It will be available in blue and red and come with a 4GB SD card. The screens will be about ninety percent larger than the original 3DS.
Interestingly, the 3DS XL will not come with an AC adaptor to help “reduce costs.” Nintendo did mention that the Ac adaptor for the original 3DS would be compatible. It will also only have one circle pad like the original 3DS. This seems to me like a missed opportunity to include a second one.
What do you guys think? Will you be picking one up now? Let us know in the comments.
