Yesterday Sony tickled the Internet’s collective much-fondled groin with a salacious video titled ‘See the Future’ (<– click this link for it!).
If it isn’t an announcement of the next Playstation then I’ll slap a goat.
All those sweeping shots across sleek laminated services are certainly reminiscent of Sony’s previous home console offerings. And all that lightening is just wicked cool, man.
Consoles use electricity right? There we go, confirmed.
We’ll find out at 6.00 pm Eastern Time on the 20th February. If you’re extra mega desperate for brand new Sony nourishment however you can register your e-mail address at their website and find out early. Sony will personally high-5 you too.
All signs point to yes. For $249 you can score a magical 7.85 inch device that will change the landscape of the smaller tablet market, forever. I call it the iPad Air. Lesser minds are calling it the Mini.
Some box art for the Wii U versions of Ubisoft titles Assassin’s Creed III, Marvel’s The Avengers: Battle for Earth and Just Dance 4 have surfaced on Amazon.ca.
These could be placeholder images but they look pretty official to me. No comment on the box art has been made from Nintendo or Ubisoft. Either way, check them out and let us know what you think about that blue and yellow system logo.
The game that many pointed to as Square Enix’s next Final Fantasy game, after this year’s Final Fantasy XIII-2, has apparently been canned. A source tells Kotaku that Square Enix has decided to quietly cancel Final Fantasy Versus XIII and that the decision came in the last couple of weeks.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was first announced in 2006. It was intended to take place in the same universe as Final Fantasy XIII but in a new era with different characters, story and design. The game itself was promised to be much different in style than XIII with a real-time action akin to something like Kingdom Hearts.
Since Versus XIII was announced it has basically been a ghost, with barely a mention by the developer. It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that Square Enix wants its cancellation to go by quietly. Surely fans can’t be too upset about a game that they barely know anything about not coming out. Hopefully we’ll hear more about Square Enix’s next project soon, whether that be Final Fantasy XIII-3, Final Fantasy XV or something different entirely.
A picture of a funky looking PS3 has popped up on the site of Anatel (the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications) and grabbed by Joystiq from Technoblog.
The most apparent difference in the above pic from the current PS3 Slim model is what appears to be a sliding panel on top. The going theory is that this sliding panel is masking a top-loading disc drive which would help bring down the price of manufacturing which could lead to a price drop.
Either way, I don’t like it. If adding that panel does help bring down the price, that’s great. But if this picture is indicative of what future PS3s will look like, we sure do have a new top contender for ugliest console ever.
I know that screenshots and concept art aren’t the most exciting of news items but this story is a bit different.
Today, some supposed concept art of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 has made its way onto the net.
Somehow optained by unofficial site ValveTime, there are thirty-two images that show various new Alyx designs, Gordon Freeman in cold weather clothing and a few concept pieces showing the Resistance chopper crashed in the Arctic. It was made clear that these shots are supposedly from way back in 2008 and may not be representative of how the game looks now.
Of course they are.
For now we’ll take this with a huge grain of salt. But something tells me Valve won’t be commenting on the validity of these concept images any time soon.

Mass Effect 3 has seen tons of multiplayer DLC and the first tidbit of single player DLC hit yesterday with the Extended Cut. However, diehard fans are still waiting on significant single player DLC. Bioware is known for putting out great single player content with the likes of Kasumi – Stolen Memory, Bring Down the Sky and Lair of the Shadow Broker. We may have just gotten a peek at the first big piece of content coming to Mass Effect 3.
A user on the Bioware forums has uncovered a script inside the code for the Extended Cut DLC. The script points to “The Leviathan of Dis,” a Reaper who has taken control of a mining colony, similar to how the Thorian took over colonists on Feros in the original game. Naturally Commander Shepard must save the colony and confront the Reaper. If you want to read the full script it is available here but be aware of spoilers.
Bioware has hinted that true DLC is on its way now that they’ve released the Extended Cut and all signs point to this Leviathan storyline being the next place to go in the Mass Effect universe.
[ORIGINAL STORY] A fifty-six page document has made its way onto the internet supposedly detailing Microsoft’s next console. The document is allegedly from 2010 and looks at possibilities for the Xbox 360 leading up to the launch of the ‘Xbox 720′ in 2013.
Launching at $299, the Xbox 720 is said to be launching alongside a new, improved Kinect sensor that would allow for up to four players. Other notable changes include the inclusion of a blu-ray drive, emphasis on tablet integration and the ability to obtain all of one’s media through cloud streaming with the hardware having a ten-year life cycle. There are also plans to develop glasses that would create a virtual-reality based interface dubbed Fortaleza.
So obviously Microsoft is not going to comment on the authenticity of this document. I for one have doubts about its legitimacy. Much of these rumored inclusions have been detailed before through various news blogs. An elaborate hoaxer could have collected all these bits of information and included some horrible PowerPoint to go along with it. But it could also be an intentional leak by Microsoft to gauge consumer reactions to the info.
You can check out the full document by clicking here. Let us know if you think its legit, a hoax or an intentional leak in the comments.
[UPDATE] The document has since been removed from its original source at the request of Covington & Burling, a law firm that advises Microsoft. No word on why.
Commander Shepard’s quest may be over for most players but the battle for the galaxy still rages on thanks to Mass Effect 3′s cooperative multiplayer mode. The multiplayer has already been augmented with maps, characters and weapons and now details have leaked about what is coming next.
The leak points to the next group of multiplayer maps being set on Earth in Rio, London and Vancouver. In addition to new locales it is rumored that we will receive six new human classes: Destroyer, Paladin, Demolisher, Slayer, Shadow, and Fury. The pack will also add the Pirahna Assault Shotgun, Acolyte Pistol and Typhoon Light Machine Gun.
A new video has appeared on the official Dead Space website. Entitled Dead Space Graphic Novel Short, the video focuses on Earthgov Sergeant John Carver. While patrolling the planet Uxor, he witnesses an attack on the Marker Site he guards.
There is also a countdown clock in an alien language and the text accompanying the video states: ”This is just the start of John Carver’s saga in the Dead Space Universe”.
Now one would assume that this has to be referring to Dead Space 3. The planet of Uxor looks foggy and icy and fits the previously rumored setting for the sequel. But why the focus on John Carver? Will he be a co-op partner for Isaac or just a new protagonist all together? If I had to guess, his story will probably end with the arrival of Isaac on the planet. Isaac does seem to have the worst luck in the history of history.
Take a look and let us know what you think.
