My blog posts

After being in TAG for several months, I have noticed that the Nintendo sub-forum is almost dead.  Its even quieter than our small but tight PC community (which I am proud to be part of).

There's nobody discussing about upcoming games on the Wii or the better ones that were released.  No game nights for Wii as well.  Very sad to see one console being particularly flamed or being ignored on the forum.  This scenario also happens in a Singapore gaming forum which I frequent although the Wii sub-forum there is abit better. At least there are some discussions on Wii games.  I post in both TAG and SG and both forums have members who will flame the Wii at any given opportunity.

So my question is, is the Wii really so unpopular in the US that it generates so much hatred for the console?

Sunday, April 26 2009 Gaming on the Wii

This is my 1st blog entry on TAG so hope its not too boring.

I am one of the few people on TAG who games on the Wii.  It seems like the Wii is not very popular or even talked about on many of the forums I visit whether its US or Asia.  It is abit surprising  to see that the Wii is so less talked about or should I say unpopular when it is the best-selling console in the world now.

Alot of people view the Wii as a second-class console with mostly kiddy games.  And they take any chances they can to flame and step on the Wii and its games.  It is disappointing to see the landscape of gaming change to one with so much fanboyism for a particular console and hatred for the other competing consoles.  Aren't true gamers supposed to appreciate good games regardless of what consoles they are on?

I am a relative new Wii owner, I got my set on August 2008 and have been enjoying myself on most of the titles I've bought.  Sure there are alot of crappy games on the Wii (its the same situation on the PS2) but there are definitely good quality games for the system which should not be overlooked by any true gamers.  Super Mario Galaxy comes to my mind when I think of a good platformer and it is without a doubt the definitive platformer on any consoles this generation.  And I will go so far as to say it is one of the best games on any consoles this generation too. There are other good titles like Mario Kart Wii, Boom Blox, SSBB, No More Heroes, Zack And Wiki, Endless Ocean, Metroid Prime 3 etc.  I always hear people complaining on the short life-span of Wii games or the lack of multiplayer.  I admit that the Wii is last when it comes to online and multiplayer aspect.  The 360 cannot be touched here.  However single-player games without multiplayer doesn't mean they are less value for money or  inferior.  Although they are not Wii games but Bioshock and Dead Space are examples of very good single-player experience.  So are Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Okami, Boom Blox, MadWorld, Deadly Creatures.

Admittedly Nintendo screwed up in 2008 as there aren't really much good games released.  However I see the Wii being contender for console of 2009 as their line-up of games can definitely go head to head with any of the other consoles' releases.  I have played and completed 3 Wii games in 2009 (MadWorld, Deadly Creatures and House of the Dead Overkill) and I have to say they are all pretty good games.  Especially MadWorld and Deadly Creatures which are severely overlooked.  There are some games which are coming out for the Wii in the next few months which I feel should not be overlooked, Excitebots, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Dead Space Extraction, Little King's Story, The Conduit.

So what I want to say is give the Wii a chance and don't condemn it.  Nintendo has given us alot of good games and memories in the past and I believe they will deliver on the quality games for the Wii for this generation!
