Review: Watchmen
"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us!" and I'll look down and whisper "no." That is the iconic line that Rorschach uses to open the graphic novel Watchmen.
![]() Watchmen was written by Alan Moore. It came out to the viewing public in 1986. It is one of the most acclaimed "comic" books to ever have been written. The thought probably crossed one's mind, if this book is such a big deal, then why hasn't unoriginal cooperate America not made this into a movie yet? It was said that adapting this particular book to the big screen would be one of the most difficult tasks known to man, that and figuring out the formula for Cold Fusion. Read the review after the jump...
![]() Watchmen is directed by Zach Snyder (300). It stars Bill Crudrup (Dr. Manhattan), Jackie Erale Haley (Rorschach), Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl), Malin Akerman (Silk Spectre), Jeffery Dean Morgan (The Comedian), and Matthew Goode (Ozymandias). The movie opens up with the same iconic line from the psychotic Rorschach. However, at the end of the movie you will question Rorschach's insanity and think he just might be the most sane person in the movie. Zach Snyder has shown us again that when it comes to adapting a graphic novel to the silver screen, he is the MAN! The tricky thing with turning a graphic novel or comic book into a movie is the visuals are already there for you. There is no room for interpretation. Snyder is able to take the visuals and key scenes from the books and adapt them splendidly. If you have read the book you will see that almost every scene is exact in look and dialog. All of the actors might not have seemed to have been what fans of the book expected to portray the roles, after seeing the movie all the doubt will be gone. Each of the actors portrayed the roles to a T. The most difficult person to portray in the movie would be Rorschach. Jackie Erale Haley did a great portrayal in the emotionally damaged black and white masked vigilante. The mannerisms and voice were spot on. Billy Crudrup portrayed the lack of emotionality of Dr. Manhattan fantstically as well. Dr. Manhattan might be a big blue CG character, but Crudrup did put on a motion capture suit and was playing in every scene with the actors. The movements and facial expressions were all Crudrup's. ![]() The adaptation of the story did leave out some scenes that were in the book. However, the run time of the movie is about two hours and forty-five minutes things need to be cut out. The extra scenes will be available for the DVD once that comes out in stores. Usually, with movies based off books something gets lost in translation. There were some little nuances that get forgotten about that only the hardcore fan would notice. The scene where Adrian Veidt has an attempt on his life. In the book his secretary gets the bullet, in the movie Lee Iacocca takes the shot to the chest. Also at the interview with Dr. Manhattan, Jane is not in the studio to confront him. She gives her story to the reporter and he does all of the confronting. Over all the movie is great if you have or haven't read the book. Newcomers to the world of Watchmen will hopefully go out to read the book and become transfixed with the universe Moore has created. We live in world where our comic book universe is a place where everything is black and white, good and evil and everyone loves heroes in capes. Moore has shown us a universe where masked heroes are outlawed and only one being has "super powers". Snyder has given something to the hardcore fans that they will be excited to see. I expect the DVD to shell out some record sales. We aren't talking about Dark Knight numbers, but still impressive stuff non-the-less. Overall rating: Five stars

Restless
I am not sure why but when it comes to gaming I am getting very restless. I don't have the attention span to play the games I already have. I am just bored with what I have. I want something new and exciting. I want something that I am looking forward to. As of right now I am not looking forward to anything really. There is one game, but I haven't heard too much about it lately. We are eyeing each other across the room, but no one is interested enough to make a move. Want to know the point of my ramblings...hit the jump
I'm just not happy with my gaming right now. I don't have money to buy a new game and I don't have the fortitude to play what I have already. Then I heard a voice from my home office. It was faint at first but then it came louder... I was shocked to find out it was my computer. As it turns out, I would buy PC games and play them for an hour and then jump back on the console. This time, however, the tables seem to have turned. I have a plethora of games I bought for my PC that I haven't even gotten into. I have Civ IV, The Witcher, SimCity Societies, and Spore. I tried SimCity...that didn't take really. I like the traditional type of SimCity. My favorite was 2000. I played through Spore. That is a no go. Civ IV was going to be what I was going to put in, but the red package of The Witcher popped out at my. The White Wolf called to me so I put it in. I am on the second chapter and I'm hooked. I don't want to turn this into a review of The Witcher so I won't really talk about it. I am just shocked that I looked to my PC. Before I get hate mail about that last sentence, remember I am not a PC gamer. I mostly console all the way. That is mostly because I don't want to pay for upgrading. The console is streamlined and simple. I'm just poor and lazy really. What I'm trying to get at is if you are like me, bored with your gaming. Look to some place you didn't expect. You might be surprised what you find. I am enjoying a game I was looking forward to but never gave a chance. The question I throw out to all reading this...What game are you looking forward to that will be out before summer? I personally am looking forward to Alpha Protocol. It is supposed to be out in March, but who really knows. Thoughts???

RBurt Update
After a good 3 hours of packing up my truck and 3 more hours of driving, it would have been faster but I couldn't drive that fast with the bed full because that would waste gas, I am at my new apartment. Right now I am really tired and dreading unpacking. I still have a truck load at the old aprtment and cleaning to do, but I really like where I am now. After next week the focus is going to be to finding a job. I'm not sure when I will have internet, right now I am borrowing a connection. I will be looking forward to playing some games with you all again. Until then...GAME ON!
