Pros/Cons to getting Xbox-live? 2 Months ago
Hey now,

Well guys, as I've told some of you, I'm moving into a new apartment in July. I'm wanting to get some opinions on the subscription service.

I really, really wanna play online with all the game nights and such, But being a poor college student might keep me from that... But I'm considering allocating some funds so I can join you guys online.... So long story short should I get live?

You have to add in the cost of the conection to a live account. If your online gaming on the 360 is you Entertainment then I say go for it. You can also us the internet conection for school. On the other hand if you just play online now and then I would stick to computer, and DS, or a PSP if you have one as their online gaming is free.

$60 might be a good gift for you, say a apartment warming gift (Hint, Hint).

I'm thinking I can switch the funds around. When I split the internet bill between the other four roommates, It's only going to be like 20 bucks. Haha... I think it might be my apartment warming gift

I'd say its definitely worth it, you are only using about a quarter of what the 360 can do if you aren't online with it.

I agree. It has sucked having the system this long and not being able to play on live.

Get it!
Met is correct in saying you are only using a percentage of what the 360 can do.

Not only do you get to game with people online, but there is the whole friends list, chat, messages, messenger.

Most importantly, there is the whole experience of Marketplace. There are tons of demos on there, XBLA games...they all have free trials, TV shows, Movies and everything else.

When you think about all the great things the LIVE service offers the $50 per year price tag shouldn't be that big of a deal. Consider that $50 a year equals about $0.96 a week. That's just under $0.14 a day. You can't even buy a piece of bubble gum for less than $0.14. Trust me (and everyone else of the service) you will have way more fun than $0.14 worth every day you are on the service. Well worth it. (All figures U.S.)

While I agree that Xbox Live is great, and recommend that he get it; it's only fair to point out that all the Marketplace stuff is avalible with the free Xbox Live Silver account. (But not the multi-player gaming; that takes the pay Gold account)

I don't think you truly unlock the unique benefits of the 360 until you go gold.

Once you pop you never stop. Sucks you have to pay though...

True.
I don't really play on Live very much (basically at all) but I find it well worth the $$. I hate paying for something that should be free but like they said it is only pennies a day.

It is the cheapest form of great entertainment I've ever seen.

hah adopt a noob.

Oh, btw just thought of a con of XBL. When you inevitably suffer the red ring of death (like I have just encountered this morning...) you will wind up paying for a month of the service while you send it off to be repaired.

Only expect this once a year though...

Check online you can sometimes get Live 12 month cards cheap.

Live is worth it if you have the friends and you'll get them participating in gaming night here and join other gaming groups.
