IPOD vs. Zune 3 Weeks, 2 Days ago
My ipod looks like its about to die on me, if it does I was wondering if I should carry on the POD legacy with a newer model or switch teams and try out a zune. Zune would be fresh and different, and it might offer some interesting things, but I've been pretty used to the Ipod with the itunes music and the podcast and what not. How would you guys handle this situation?

Do you like the zune because its not an Ipod or does zune have the better deal?

I like the Zune,

Bigger screen
Wireless sync
not linked to I-tunes
Better sound
Longer Batt life
comes with better ear buds

And most of all when a new one comes out you don't have to worry about compatibilty. New I-pod too bad buy a new one, from Apple.
New Zune, new firmware update for older Zune.

Not trying to turn this into a 'fanboy off', but I am going to strip down both players with thteir pros and cons.

-Bigger Screen
Heard of the iPod Touch? Has a quite large screen. The iPod Classic has a screen about the same size as a Zune2.0

-Wireless Sync
That is a convenience, but is it really that great? The iTouch has a feature where you can buy any song wirelessly and put it on your iPod through Wi-Fi. You will need to charge your iPod Zune eventually anyway. I don't find that either of those features are necessary.

-Not linked to iTunes
I find that iTunes makes it easier most of the time. Nobody likes buying their music though. The Zune player has a software accompanying it right? Windows Media Player 11. I do like the 'all-in-one' pass that the ZuneStore has. As much music as you want for $15 a month.

-Better Sound
That's debatable. I have listened to both and really there's no difference.

-Longer Battery Life
Probably true. The iPod Classic has a decent batt life, but nothing to be amazed @.

-Better Ear Buds
I will fight this one to the death. The new iPod models come with very good earbuds. They have a small rubber circle around it that help keep it in place and they do have a quite good sound quality.

[B]Zune Pros/Cons:
+Smaller
+Music is cheaper, if you buy it legit
+Battery Life
-Not stylish, 1st gen looks like a brick. 2nd gen is decent looking.
-Smaller screen

iPod Pros/Cons:
+Stylish
+Ease of use
+iPod Touch jailbroken is amazing.
-Battery life bad
-Background not custimizable

I would suggest to get a 32GB iPod Touch, although they are very overpriced. If you've got the money, get one. If you Jailbreak one it can be your new PDA. They aren't very ideal though when you're trying to change the music in your car while your driving for instance or when you're running. The iPod Classic 80GB is very nice. I have one myself. I've got 14 movies and 1300 songs on it. Only used about 15GB of space.

Ipod 2.5"
Zune 80gb 3.2"

This is a bigg diff when you watch movies or podcasts for a long time.

And I'm not a Fanboy as you put it, I own a 60, and 80gb Ipod as well as a 8o gb Zune.

The reason I got the Zune was the fact that with every new Ipod they make you buy all new Accessories and add new features that could be apply to older models with a firmware update.

Fact: Micrsoft added the new features to the old Zune with a firmware update.

Simply Yes I like putting my Zune in the Dock by my bed and having all the podcast update as well as any new movies, or songs.

Fact: To You and me its debatable, But Ultimate AV Mag, C-net, Ziff Davis, Extremetech, Tekzilla all rate it higher in audio output. And I check that Touch out its a step back from the Ipod Classic's.

I feel both are good devices and would both serve you well. Just don't buy DRM music from either store. Check out the Amazon music store first must track DRM free.

Remember I own both and like Both. Thankyou

Mainly because I don't care for Apple Products, plus I like the bigger screen.

So does the Zune sync with Itunes via podcast and whatnot? I know the zune has it's own market place and podcast but if I'm already suited up with Itunes will it still be plug and play?

No, you will have to set up the Zune software.

Man, is it spring yet as the Zune is supposed to hit Canadian shelves in the spring. I really want a Zune this time around as my Nano has some kinks to it. Plus I'm really starting to dislike the click wheel. Sometimes I can't get it to shut down.

Really it doesnt matter if they are on there or not. You can have the Zune software monitor certain folders on your computer and add any new media that is added to those folders. So have it monitor your iTunes folder and your podcasts will be added to your collection. It will also continue to update as you download new episodes. This doesnt mean that they won't be on the marketplace to begin with, they very well could be, and if so just download them from the Zune marketplace. If not just have it monitor your iTunes folder.

Why use two media programs when you can just add anything not in the market manually.

I personally would go with the Zune even though I love my iPod ...the main reason is it's something new and fresh.

I have a first generation 30 gig Zune and I like it. The software is garbage though, Itunes is much easier. Watching movies or episodes of tv on the Zune are nice. The sound, battery life and ease of use are all good. But what I can't understand is why doesn't my MICROSOFT Zune sync with my MICROSOFT Windows Media Player? I also have a 4 gig Toshiba Gigabeat I use for jogging and I'm able to sync my recorded tv, or anything else from media center onto it with ease, but not my Zune? Hello they're both Microsoft, don't the different departments over there talk to each other?!?!?!?! IPOD and ZUNE are both decent it depends on who you hate more Apple or Microsoft.
