Sorry, I just can't be a Lakers fan. Love Phil Jackson but I am really not a Kobe fan. If he could get over himself just for a little bit, it could be better. Right now, I'm cheering for a Celts - Hornets Final.

I'm a big fan of alternate history so I would suggest the works of Harry Turtledove.

I suggest Illium and then Olympos. But good books based on Greek lore. and placed on Mars. Genghis Kahn: Birth of an Empire is another good book. I really don't know your approx. age so i don't know exactly what to suggest otherwise.

I just recently finished reading Olympos. Let me add one piece of info that Psi Fenris Wolf neglected to mention: the author is Dan Simmons. Both books were good, but I don't know that I'd rank them up there as some of my favorites. (I prefer Simmons' earlier books - Summer of Night and the like).

My overall all-time-favorite book would have to be Memoir From Antproof Case, I think. The capsule review Amazon lists is as good a description as any: "An old man climbs hills to find solace in viewing the ocean and to write a memoir for his young son (which he stores in an "antproof case" ). His story moves forward in jagged fragments, with memories leading to memories-not sequentially, but leapfrogging through a dramatic life as World War II ace, investment banker, murderer, and more and looping back upon one another. As in a portrait by Picasso, the truth of his life is revealed through wildly distorted features. Helprin returns to his themes of love and redemption, once again creating a tale that is rich in imagery and juxtaposes the irreverence and faith, foolishness and brilliance, of a 20th-century Don Quixote. Highly recommended."

Tom Robbins is also worth reading - he's what you'd get if you put Timothy Leary, Italo Calvino, and Jimmy Buffet in a blender and poured the results on the pages of a book. Trippy and non-sequitorish, but good fun. And a little disgusting.

I gotta run off to class but let me add my very distinguished literary voice to this chorus of recommendations.

I'm feeling ironic today so my recommendations will reflect that. Of all the novels that I've read, The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon is amongst my favourites. I'd also recommend Catch-22 by Joseph Heller and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

Good morning! Fun times again on COD4 last night...that was the first time I've ever played a rocket match on Shipment, and that was just nuts. That Infection-esque game was pretty cool too. I kinda wish that would be a legit game mode. Actually, the one thing that would get me to buy COD5 is if there are zombies involved...they make everything better .

I'd have to say I'd like to see a Cavs-Lakers final, but that's not going to happen since the Cavs won't be able to get past Boston. It would help in LeBron would show up for a full game, but I'm not holding my breath.

On the literary front, I may not be the best for suggestions, but I've been reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Time's Eye by Arthur C. Clarke/Stephen Baxter. I'm not too far into the latter, but so far it's a good read. It's an intriguing alternate take on some of the themes present in the 2001 series (which are some of my favorite books ever).

I decided to take a short break from GTA to pop in Lost: Via Domus. While it is not the best game I've played, I had fun with it.

Currently, I am getting ready to start reading The Stand by Stephen King. It's one I've heard about and always saw around but never picked it up....til this past weekend at the book store. As far as suggestions, I'll lean towards the lighter side too with James Rollins. His books (especially the earlier ones) run a lot like an Indiana Jones story...which is why he was picked to pen the book version of the latest Indy movie. They aren't the deepest things but I've always had fun with them.

Wolf, I checked out Illium on Amazon and am now intrigued....so I've ordered it

Oh, you just reminded me: Neil Gaiman is another fantastic author. I'd particularly recommend "American Gods."

For anyone that read and liked The Stand, there's a book by Robert R. McCammon called "Swan Song" that is often (favorably) compared with it. It's been years since I read Swan Song, but I remember really liking it, and the comparison is apt.

Along a similar vein, I'd also recommend most things by Clive Barker. Lately he's been publishing children's books, but prior to that he was at the top of the field.

I read You Suck by Christoper Moore, damn funny book. Love Neil Gaiman's work too. I still have to finish Anansi Boys some time. My favorite author is still Jim Butcher atm. The Dresden Files series is great.

Some other good Stephen King Book are the Dark Tower series and "Cell". Now if ur into autobios like I am then I would recommend Bruce Campbells "Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way"..very funny book.
Anyways I had good times last night with the CoD4 night..if anyone wants to do some shadowrun tonight let me know..I gotta get my learn on with this game.
