Iron Man Impressions 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago
So I was lucky enough to get to see the movie a day early.

I must say Robert Dowley Jr. played the character of Tony Stark PERFECTLY. I've had issues with the way other actors played my favorite men in tights but this movie got it right.

The humor of this movie is phenomenal. Granted the playboy, carefree Tony Stark is just a treasure trove of jokes and humor but man there are very few scenes that don't have some sort of joke in them. A great laugh all the way through.

There are also a few tidbits of fanservice strewn throughout the story. Fans of Iron Man will see some foreshadowing of the future.

The plot starts out good but towards the last half hour it really goes downhill. I really liked the rest of it though just seemed to come to a screeching halt at the end.

The villain was lame. Plain and simple. The fight was really boring too in my opinion but hey at least Iron Man looks awesome.

All in all I really enjoyed the movie. Since I am a character personallity nut I really REALLY loved Robert Dowley Jr.'s performance of Tony Stark. While I don't feel it is as good as the first Spider-man movie or Batman Begins, it is one of the best super-hero movies yet. I highly recommend it.

I also saw it earlier today as well. Excellent movie. Without spoiling anything for everyone else: what did you think of the, uh, "scene" after the credits?

YES.

I was thinking all through the movie "I wonder when they will do _______" and then they did!

I am so glad they chose that version of that character too. He's more badass than the original.

Can't wait to see where this goes.

The movie was awesome, probably my favorite superhero movie.

I thought the villain was awesome!! They had to use him for this first movie becaue Mandaran probably wouldn't work out for a first film (too magical/mystic).

I loved the after-the-credits scene. I thought that it was perfect because the actor in the scene was used as inspiration to create that character in the comic book.

Amazing movie! I went to a Retail edge thing for my company. So I also got to see it a day early for free with pizza and prizes.

Overall the movie was awesome. I can't wait to see War Machine and more S.H.I.E.L.D.! Gwyneth Paltrow, as Pepper, his assistant. She's so hot.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay for the scene after the ending credits. Damn.

I thought it was great. One of the best comic book movies and probably the best Marvel movie to date. I absolutely loved the scene after the end credits. I was worried at first, because rumor was that scene was not going to make it in the final cut. I really hope they do something similar with all of the upcoming solo movies like Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Ant Man.

Even if Incredible Hulk flops, which I hope it doesn't, Iron Man will make Marvel Studios' money back to cover the line of credit they got from Merrill Lynch.

Damn me and my friends didn't stay till after the credits. I wonder if it was a leak to Ironman2? Overall a pretty good movie. IronMan looks badass as ever. I was unaware that it was a comic prior to this movie. Good action and funny parts too.

I like the old school rock n roll soundtrack. Plus the references to other comic book heroes were great. Definitely a fan's boy movie. This makes me want to watch some old Iron man cartoons

I agree this was a great movie. I was never a huge Iron Man fan. The comics were interesting, but never a must buy for me. But the movie nailed it. The casting was near perfect, the special effects were amazing, and the story was good. I agree the ending did not live up to the first hour and a half, but it wasn't terrible. It's just that the first half had been so good it seemed like a letdown.

Here's hoping The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight at least measure up. Iron Man set a pretty high mark for the first movie of the summer season.

Re:Iron Man Impressions 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I just got back from seeing it with my brother. My opinion: meh. It's not a bad movie; it's just not a great movie. It's better than the Spider-Man sequels and Superman Returns but not nearly as good as, say, the brilliant Batman Begins or even Hellboy.

My three main complaints. One, the acting, while solid and decent enough, is entirely what you'd expect from Downey Jr, Paltrow and Bridges to the point of being ridiculous: Downey Jr is Downey Jr, Paltrow is Paltrow, etc. Two, the plot is 100% telegraphed - zero surprises, you simply know what is going to happen before it happens. And three, Jon Favreau is a boring, boring director. Visually, this movie is simply uninteresting.

But... it's a comic book movie, so no one expects it to be great. It'll make a lot of money, spawn a sequel or two, and that's all fine and dandy.

While I agree with Batman Begins, Hellboy really didn't do much for me. Iron Man teeters on greatness and confirms that comic book movies can be relatively faithful to the source material without being campy.

(1) Interesting comment. Most of the reviews I've seen have pointed to the acting as the best part of the film. I would agree. The actors were well selected. For Robert Downey Jr. to be anything other then himself in the role of Tony Stark would be unfaithful to the character of Tony Stark. I commented before the movie came out that when Downey was cast in the role of Tony Stark somewhere Buck Owens was singing "Act Naturally."

(2) The plot (specifically, as has been noted in the thread, the ending) is the weakest part of the movie. But part of the difficulty with comic book movies is how to make a good movie while not totally negating the source material. Obadiah Stane is Obadiah Stane. To have not made him the villain would have created a backlash from fans of Iron Man. Given the constraints of a comic book movie, the plot was acceptable.

(3) I've not seen Elf or Zathura, so I can't comment on Favreau's work in a broad way. But Iron Man worked for me. I thought the visuals were great, particularly the evolution of the armor, scenes like the soldiers waiting outside of the cave and seeing initially only the lighted chest piece, and the flying, in particular because it demonstrated that Iron Man is not simply a superhero, but one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe.

I hear you. I still liked the movie, I just didn't think it was a great movie.

And I love Robert Downey Jr and Jeff Bridges (I find Paltrow always kinda annoying, however). Unfortunately, I knew exactly what the acting would look like, and could hear how all the lines were going to be delivered, the moment the casting was announced. That's not bad, it's just kind of a wasted opportunity since all three of them are damn solid actors.

If Obadiah Stane had been drinking a White Russian, or had made some sort of mention about how the rug tied the room together, I would have loved this movie a whole lot mote.

Poor Jeff. All the roles and now he'll forever abide as one character.

Of course, Kenny Rogers singing "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" would have been appropriate for Iron Man as well.
