E3 2008 - Day Four - The Sad Goodbye

Hey look, it's an early show!

Day four wraps up our E3 coverage, as the (former) biggest event in the gaming industry closes its doors and we start winding down.

Today was spent with lots of hands on time with games we hadn't yet seen. Our E3 finale day was spent with such highly anticipated titles as Left 4 Dead, Lego Batman, Project Origin, Resistance 2, Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Halo Wars, and Lips.

We also give you a wrap up on all things E3, including our Game of the Show, the studios that impressed us most, and the games that let us down.

So I know you guys are going to do a live show really soon, but due to my schedule I do not think I can make it, and I wanted to ask a few questions about Left 4 Dead. What has mostly been curious to me is how exactly you connect to other players. I have basically been weened on dedicated servers since I really began to play online, and anytime I try to connect to a friend with some program that goes from ip to ip I always get some kind of stupid problem because I am behind a router (and so are most of my friends). I know valve is not stupid enough to make it go from ip to ip where you have to do it, but will it be easy to connect say... someone says they host, and then it pulls random people, or sends a little invite to some friends? Just a little curious to how it works.

That's what I love about the show guys. Esentially brothers talking about games who are fun and insightful. I listen weekly and this week has been a real treat. Now, take the weekend off.

Honestly, we've been SO glad to bring you guys our coverage this week. Parris and I have had so much fun.

My biggest regret is that we didn't have a lot more for you guys. There simply weren't enough hours in the day, and we were short on people. We really wanted to do more, but even shaving down our sleeping time to 4 - 5 hours a night wasn't enough to do everything we wanted.

Our second regret is that we don't live closer. It is SO much fun sitting in the car talking about the things we did and the games we saw, and doing stuff like that every week with one of your best friends is the kind of fun a lot of people will never experience.

Next year, if there is an E3, we will be doing double the coverage that we did this year. Mark my words. Bookmark this post, print it out. We'll have way more for you.

I'm really glad to hear all the positive things people have said this week. Parris and I haven't had time to reply back to everyone this week, since we're so busy. But I hope you guys know that we appreciate each and every one of you, and the encouraging words you've given us in feedback, in the forums, and in the Live Blogs. Waking up in the morning and seeing you guys enjoying the content we're producing has helped keep us going.

I made a brief mention of this in the podcast write up, but we've got MORE stuff coming for you this weekend. I'm still working on write ups for all of the games I had hands on time with, First Looks at some of the games demo'ed to me, and a few other surprises. So our E3 coverage doesn't end here. You'll have lots to look forward to this weekend.

Oh, and at first glance, the video of Parris singing in Lips came out nicely.

I didn't have a lot of time to look at the connection mechanism, since I was so focused on playing the game.

But the load screens were identical to the ones you saw to the games in the Orange Box, and the menus looked really similar to TF2. The Valve representative even commented that they were learning lessons from online multiplayer in TF2 for use with L4D. So I wouldn't be surprised if it was a similar connection mechanic.

Todd Howard from Bethesda @ the MS Press Conference did say Fallout 3 will have "exclusive content for Xbox and PC" and you two want to get it on the PS3? What!!?

Sony needs to sale more system, and I don't see it with the game line-up they have this season. Okay, I know I'll be picking one up before years end, but BC is a non issue because I'll be keeping my PS2, heck it still being supported.

Sony's PS3 is looking a lot like Nintendo's Game Cube, The only games to buy the system for are first party titles, those are the only ones that you know will remain exclusive.

Another excellent show, thanks for all the E3 coverage. Really enjoyed hearing your opinions, but I am still buying Fable 2 & (Fallout 3 the 360)~ Will get a PS3 for LittleBigPlanet & Resistance 2 . . and I guess to watch movies on..

Jay and Parris, Next time I will go meet you before I decide to have some beers. Was just trying to loosen up before chatting it up. I can't believe they let you guys in the theater so dam early. Must have been 3 hours before, and I didn't see that comming.

You know what would be cool, is to have Jay & Parris inventory the games they have now for both system and at the end of the year see which system they pick up the most games on. Shot, have all the listeners keep track and see what the average is.

great show like always. I just had one quick question for jay or parris. Little big planet looks really fun and appealing to me i was just curious if this is a disk based game??? if it is iam not so sure if its going to be worth the full 60.00.
