Review: Operation Darkness
Operation Darkness is a fantastical romp through the good old days of the final few years of WWII. The developers at Atlus studios decided to build a turn based RPG around something everyone can love, killing Nazis. If that weren't awesome enough you also get to... - Read the full review
One of the game's showcased at yesterday's Ubisoft press conference, Far Cry 2, is now online for all to see. The developer walkthrough has been recorded and put into a nice little video package for us.
You won't see too much here, to be honest. The main focus of the demo is to display the effect that time of day has on the gameplay.
Still, this thing looks pretty sweet. The demo has a "spontaneous" event occur, but we'll have to see exactly how random these things are when we get our hands on the retail game this Fall.
We all know that Capcom has been working on two separate Bionic Commando titles. One, a remake of the classic NES title, is a little less interesting. The other, a brand new, next-gen title, definitely has the ability to raise our excitement level.
Up until today, I was sort of 50/50 on the title. We hadn't heard much about its development until this year's E3, but it seems it was worth the wait.
Today, Capcom was kind enough to give a gameplay demo to quite a few members of the press at the convention. And, not surprisingly, a gameplay video has been released for our viewing pleasure.
Before today? Not so convinced. After today? Do want!
From the heart of the Los Angeles Convention Center comes Konami's E3
press conference. Packed with journalists, the room will be abuzz with
excitement as the company prepares to announce a few key titles, and
will undoubtedly impress us with even more sales numbers for Metal Gear
Solid 4.
Konami's press conference starts at 2:30pm Pacific Time on Wednesday,
July 16th. Hit the Read More button for the interactive Live Blog.
In an attempt to dispute the "cute and family-friendly" reputation of the Nintendo Wii, Sega has begun work on a new title, MadWorld. And today, a new "DeathWatch" trailer has been pushed out to the public.
If you haven't seen any info on MadWorld yet, the first thing you'll notice is its art style. Black and white... with a little bit of red thrown into the mix. According to the game's official site:
"MadWorld revolves around the themes of brutality and exhilaration. To give MadWorld the graphical edge to match its brutal theme, we tried removing all color from the world except for blood. As a result, we decided the best concept color way to convey blood, and thus brutality, was against this black and white backdrop."
Throw in a little bit of sly humor, and you've got the following trailer. Check this bad boy out. So far, it looks like it might actually be pretty fun. We'll be able to know for sure in Q1 of 2009, when the game is scheduled for a North American and European release.
Is there anything more amusing than crazy rabbits... err, rabbids?
After announcing their new title, Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, at their Ubidays event, Ubisoft decided to roll out a new trailer for the game today. In the video, you'll get a taste of a few of the mini-games, as well as the use of the Wii Balance Board.
FYI, the "dad" in this trailer is fun to watch. Some of the facial expressions he makes... well, just take a look for yourself.
Who would have thought that more than one flight combat game could survive on the market at the same time? Apparently, the answer to that question is, "Ubisoft."
Joining the never-ending Ace Combat series this September will be H.A.W.X. (High Altitude Warfare Experimental Squadron). And to raise the excitement surrounding the game just a bit, Ubisoft released a trailer earlier today.
This is, for the most part, all standard stuff. Troops in trouble, pilot takes off, pilot dodges missile, pilot destroys enemies of troops. It's the kind of trailer that just makes you want to go watch Top Gun.
Just a few minutes ago, Nintendo representatives have confirmed that their upcoming title, Animal Crossing: City Folk, will support a USB keyboard for use in-game.
The keyboard will be used to send messages to friends, send messages to the Wii forums, as well as writing letters at the in-game post office.
And best of all, it seems that practically any USB keyboard will be compatible with the game. That's right, you're not going to be handcuffed on this one, forced to purchase an item with Wii branding on it.
Animal Crossing: City Folk is scheduled for release this November.
Did you know that Motorstorm is the best-selling PlayStation 3 game of all time? Seriously! Better than Resistance, better than MGS4, and better than GTA IV! No, I didn't get my hands on grandma's medicinal marijuana.
Well, starting this Winter, we'll be able to get our hands on the sequel of this selling-like-hotcakes title, dubbed Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.
Featuring fully-destructible environments, a more refined handling system, and monster trucks (yeah, buddy!), this little bugger is looking more and more exciting by the day.
Today, we have a chance to take a peak at the new trailer for the game. And be sure to check out our hands-on preview from the E3 show floor.
Ah, my dear old buddy. What happened to ya, Sonic? I remember playing you for hours on my Sega Game Gear back in the day. Where did it all go wrong?
Let's face it, we've all kind of become accustomed to poor Sonic games. Every title that has carried the franchise's name over the last few years has been... well... not so good.
Enter Sonic Unleashed. The latest installment in the long line of Sonic games, this game sort of feels like our last hope, doesn't it? Well, there are a few perks here, all of which can be seen in the latest trailer for the game. First, we have some 2-D side-scrolling environments again. Second, the 2-D worlds look like they transition into the 3-D worlds pretty smoothly.
But what's this? Excessive quick-time events? Combat? Slow Sonic? What?!
Come on, you know Mirror's Edge, right? First-person parkour? Well, if, for some crazy reason, you don't know what I'm talking about, the next couple of videos should help you out.
The first film is EA's walkthrough video from their press conference on Monday. They'll take you through a short level (one that has been seen a couple times before), giving you a quick demonstration of how the game plays.
The second video features Nick Channon, one of the producers behind Mirror's Edge. He'll give you a little backstory for the game's main character, Faith. Additionally, you'll get to see a little extra gameplay that wasn't part of EA's presentation.
The first video is below. Hit the jump for the interview with Mr. Channon.
We're back again from Sunny California to bring you another episode of UncleGamer Radio!
OK, sort of. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Parris was unable to record the full show tonight. Instead, we're bringing you a series of recordings we made during our car trips throughout the day. These clips were taken as we were either driving to a press conference, or just leaving a press conference. Or both. Joining us in the car were Godfree from Gamertag Radio and Rodsmack from The10K Club.
We talk about our predictions for upcoming press conferences, then follow it up with our reactions once the press conferences were done. Who was the heavy hitter? You might be surprised what we think about certain games.
There's a little more cursing in the episode than normal, due to our sleep deprivation.

I'll bet someone out there believed that our beloved waggle box was at the absolute forefront of the motion sensing age, huh? Well, they would have been oh so wrong. Following the unveil yesterday, Nintendo officially announed their Wii MotionPlus device today, and it's exactly what it sounds like: a device that gives more, true waggle to your waggle wands. Yes, finally, we can have (allegedly) 1:1 motion tracking on the Wii. Does this mean a FPS Lightsaber game could work now, LucasArts?
Partnering with InvenSense, Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus incorporates the company's "IDG-600 multi-axis MEMS rate gyroscope" device into a small, compact form that snaps onto the end of the Wiimote. When used in combination with the external sensor bar and the Wii's accelerometer, much more detailed and accurate gestures are possible. Ready for some techni-babble? Oh, good:
Conventional MEMS gyroscopes, which are the key enabling technology
that can sense absolute rotational motion inputs, are typically used in
commercial automotive electronic stability control and GPS
applications, where their larger size, high power consumption and costs
are accommodated. InvenSense has introduced an entirely new class of
high performance silicon-based MEMS rate gyroscopes that offers smaller
package sizes, lower power consumption, and lower price points suitable
for consumer markets. The addition of InvenSense’s multi-axis rate
gyroscope solution to the Wii MotionPlus accessory allows high
precision 3D tracking of rapid gaming gestures.
O...kay. The bottom line is, more waggle!!! The Wii MotionPlus is set to release in tandem with Wii Sports Resort. While you wait, why not get WiiFit?You're gonna need that extra arm strength. Hit the jump for the presser.
Well, there had been whispers left and right for the last couple weeks, hinting that we might see the unveiling of Bungie's latest game at E3 this week. But sadly, that will not happen. Bungie's Luke Smith has spoken directly with the folks over at Joystiq , saying the announcement had been cancelled. Additionally, Mr. Smith made a couple posts on the NeoGaf forums confirming the situation.
Bungie's website had been displaying a countdown screen for the past couple days. The clock on the site counted down to 07:07:07 am PST, tomorrow morning. Now, the front page simply has a letter from Harold Ryan, Bungie's president.
Hit the jump for the saddening, depressing letter.
Update: The sleuthy folks over at Kotaku have heard through the grapevine that the decision to pull Bungie's announcement was made by a "high-level executive" over at Microsoft. As always, the forum-goers at NeoGaf have made a guess at who this might be. Obviously, all of this is hearsay and speculation at this point. One thing is certain, though. This should be an interesting story to follow in the coming days.
