Review: Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals
The information age has had an unfortunate effect on novelty. We are so aware of everything that's out there that we can't possibly look upon a thing without drawing comparisons to things similar to it, supposed things that are "better" than this derogative... - Read the full review
Well, actually it's GameTrailers that's doing the comparing, but we can observe and make comments.
Banjo-Kazooie is hitting Xbox LIVE Arcade on November 26th (or on the release day of Nuts & Bolts if you pre-order!!!), but how does it stack up against the old N64 counterpart? Aside from the noticeable higher resolution textures and VASTLY improved framerate ... it looks exactly the same. That's a good, good thing. Well, there's the whole removal of the Nintendo label in the intro, but that's a small isuue that doesn't really matter.
Showdown Town. It's the new hotness in the land of Banjo-Kazooie. Miles and miles of grassland, beautiful vistas, quaint little wooden houses. It's peaceful-looking, isn't it? Plus the fact that there's all that space to drive around in.
The following new footage shows off Banjo's new hub world in even greater detail than before. See the various townsfolk NPCs, Jinjos, the gigantic Jiggy case in the center of town. Wow. Rare look to have delivered a graphical accomplishment, if I do say so myself.
Uwe Boll is making a game, have you heard? It's an FPS, much like the game one of his films was based on: Far Cry. In fact, 1968: Tunnel Rats (that's what his game is called) looks almost exactly like Ubisoft's upcoming Far Cry 2, except with much more "meh" applied.
To be fair, it's not finished, so it could potentially improve by the time it releases on PC and Xbox 360. Anyone going to line up at midnight to try this out this Fall?
Ah comparison videos, how we love (and hate) them. Aside from trying to point out the negligible differences in texture quality or lighting in the corner of a room, they lead to amusing reads on the internet about which version is better - even though it really doesn't matter. With BioShock's PS3 debut looming, GameVideos did everyone a favor and created a good old comparison video between it and the year-old Xbox 360 version.
...Done watching? Oh good. In case it wasn't painfully obvious, there isn't much of a difference between the two whatsoever. That, of course, is great news ... everyone should be able to enjoy Rapture regardless of platform! BioShock releases on PlayStation 3 on October 21st.
Bethesda will be making a "megaton" of a show at PAX this weekend when they not only let the public (well, those who are in the right spot in line at the right time) play Fallout 3 for the first time, but also when they give a lengthy 45-minute demo of the RPG.
Heading into their demonstration, 5 new videos showing off bits of what we played a E3 and some new goodness have been released. You'll start off inside Vault 101 and journey to the town of Megaton and beyond. I'll be honest, I the beginning of this footage like the back of my hand, since I played the demo way too many times at E3. Sorry, Bethesda. This is a winner. Fallout 3 hits on October 28th.
Scheduled to be playable by John Q. Public beginning tomorrow, Valve's sure-to-be-epic E3 show-stopper, Left 4 Dead, is indeed headed to the 360 as well as mouse and keyboard platform on November 18th.
Up until now only the PC version has been playable and shown to gamers' eyes, but no longer. Look, look at what you Xbox 360 users will be playing in just over 2 months time on Xbox LIVE. Be forewarned, the following gameplay clip takes place towards the end of the game's storyline as you and your allies await your desperate rescue. Your goal? Survive in an abandoned farmhouse/barn setting until the very end. Spooky stuff. Yes, it really is that frantic. Hit the jump for a second video, this one showing off the level we played at E3.
I will admit, when I first watched this new bit of footage for Killzone 2, I was thinking...there's no way. There's just no way that Guerrilla have implemented the absurd Army of Two-esque "chatter" system between your squadmates. Thankfully, they haven't; all the footage here is taken from the game's online multiplayer. Phew.
Set to debut officially this week at the Leipzig Games Convention, here's another peek at the PS3's biggest exclusive FPS for the early part of 2009. It's looking good, gotta give it that. Compared to the single player portions I've gotten my hands on, multiplayer isn't quite as sharp...but that's such a small thing to quibble over. Look at them hi-def 'splosions!
Capcom already shocked us all (?) by announcing that previous 360-exclusive, Dead Rising, was heading to the Wii of all platforms; but until today we'd yet to see it in motion.
So, how does the game that was once thought to only be possible on the Xbox fare? Think of this way: Chop 'TIll You Drop is more of an "alternative" version of Dead Rising, rather than a port. It looks...ok, far worse than what you've seen on the next-gen system, but it has a certain charm that is reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 - probably because of the new camera angle. One thing of note, though: Am I the only one that sees noticeable slowdown whenever Frank West plows through a group of zombies? You be the judge...
