Battlefield Heroes, the play-for-free game being released by EA and DICE within the next few months, has kicked off the beta sign up process. You can register for the beta at this link. The beta participants are supposed to be staggered out over time, so don't fret if you're not in the initial allotment of invitations.
Heroes is taking a bit of a different road from its bretheren, by focusing on a TF2-esque visual style as well as removing all costs for the point of entry into the game. EA is expecting to make up for this by incorporating advertising and microtransactions in the game, meaning you could end up flying the B-12 Bomber sponsored by Pepsi while paying $1.99 for an extra life. But the content looks solid, and it's hard to argue with a game that's free to play, even if you may end up getting nickel and dimed a few times.
