wow a very angry paris...maybe someone else should drive...I kid I kid...not really I understand paris points about sony, but he made a comment about the mainstream gamer going in this holiday, and getting a ps3 due to some of the announcements made by Sony. IMO, the mainstream person won't know about anything talked about at the press conferences come this holiday when they go out to buy a system. I do think msft needs to drop the (now 60gb) to $250, and the elite to $325. Maybe they will do there price drop around the launch of madden like last year. As for the movie content on the 2 consoles. I side with msft offering over sony's. I haven't had a psp in over a year, and tranfering it to a psp isn't a motivator for me to go another one. (I can do that on my iphone...now if msft offered that on an ipod/iphone that is another story). The psp is big/clunky to be on the go with IMO. It is great sony has a decent amount of studio support, but it isn't better/greater then msft current support. They also charge more for the HD content then msft. (espically if you factor in the fact that getting point cards a lot cheaper then msrp is easy to do...ie toys r us buy 1 get 50% off accessory sales, or the $15.00 1600 point card sales) It is nice to buy a movie, but if you are going to buy a movie why wouldn't you want the disc? I also don't think blu ray is going to be a deciding factor. I don't think it will become the defacto player of movies period. IMO blu ray (hd dvd to a point) are the tweener format, much like laser disc. I think there will continue to be a market for it, but IMO DLC will be king in the next 2 - 4 years. Comcast announced at CES a 100mbps service to be starting up this fall tested in New England. Fios is getting laid all over the country. When I watch a blu ray movie, or a HD movie DL off of xbox live, there is minimal difference in the picture quality. Yes I do notice some, but I also manipulate images all day so I am a little bit on the videophile side of things. As for MAG, the idea sounds great, but I do think it is pie in the sky thinking...Personally I enjoy 8 v 8 matches like on the earlier socoms and halo. It is big enough to have some great matches, it is small enough so everyone is on the same page. Didn't mag say they were going to have teams broken into squads of 8. What is the point of 256 people in a map, if you are only going to be in a squad of 8 fighting a different squad of 8. I used to be a big supporter of having as many people online in matches as possible, but I have yet to find a game that has more then 8 v 8 that I have enjoyed in online play. Another big issues with sony and having games like this (resistance 2/mag) is everyone does not have a headset. |

| Cool way to do in the car coverage. I like it. I got to say I disagreed with your take on the conferences. For me it was Microsoft then Sony then Nintendo. Microsoft had Gears 2, Fable 2, a ton of exclusives from games and DLC. The Netflix exclusive will be awesome. They are going to expand on the offerings and work to stream HD in the future which I am sure MS will help out. I signed up for Netflix already in preparation. I own a PS3 as well asnd was pretty unexcited. Home is delayed until whenever. Little Big Planet looked goods as always. God of War 3 is whenever. MAG did not excite me. Sony lost the FF13 exclusive. I have a large DVD library and have bought a few blu-ray titles but I am much less inclined to buy. I would rather get my titles online and watch them when I want to see them and less about owning them which is why the Netflix offering has me excited. I may end up just selling off my blu-ray as well as my PS3. As for the pricing advanatage to Sony that you touted, I am not so sure. 360 20GB is $299 (while they last) and the 60GB will be $349 while the 80GB PS3 will be $399 so if you want to watch blu-ray movies which are currently more expensive than standard DVD then $50 would be worth it. For me, not so much. I do think MS should lower the Elite to $399 |
