The Halo faithful (and Bungie themeselves, despite what Microsoft says) were both disappointed and upset, no doubt, when the dynamite reveal of the developer's next [Halo] title was canned from E3. Bungie and Microsoft have stated since last week that yes, there is absolutely a brand new Halo title in the works (outside of Halo Wars and the Peter Jackson project), and that its unveiling would be saved "for a dedicated event" later this year.
Taking a peek at our calendars, there's only a few major gaming events left to go: PAX, Leipzig and TGS. Could one of those be the place where Bungie will wow us all once again? Sure, one of them could be, but it won't be PAX, which is in just under a month, that's for sure. Today while teasing out their PAX plans, Bungie stated that:
For the record, we have no plans to make any big announcements or huge
reveals at PAX this year. While we will have some Halo 3 multiplayer
stuff for you to check out, this is not going to be the "big
announcement" many of our fans are clamoring for. Rest assured that when the time is right, we will be making
announcements and talking about the stuff we're currently working on.
Huh. Just when and where will this dedicated event be, then? On the flip side, you did read that correctly: multiplayer stuff. According to the update, there will be "brand new Halo 3 multiplayer content, including chances for hands-on play" at the show in Seattle next month; as well as chances to play against and get your ass handed to you by the Bungie staff for what else, Recon armor. Yes, you can haz R3c0n. Bungie does hint at mysterious goings on within the studio, though. We know that a new Halo adventure is underway, as well as something [likely] that involves the Superintendent character, but they say that:
At the moment we do have three distinct projects underway within Bungie
- some familiar, some not. Some on a closer horizon, some quite far
off.
Hmm. Do tell, Bungie. Do tell.
