Last week, Take-Two Interactive announced their rejection of an Electronic Arts hostile takeover bid, but promised to work with Electronic Arts on some 'strategic alternatives' to tie into the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV.
A press release issued by Take-Two Interactive earlier today, which we've included after the jump, announced the forthcoming release of Burnout: Liberty City. Described as a mixture of open world gameplay mechanics from both franchises, the game will adopt Burnout's traditional death and destruction driving styles and implement them in the crime-ridden Liberty City.
Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of the Board of Take-Two, had this to say:
Burnout: Liberty City represents an opportunity for two successful franchises to work together for mutual benefit. The world of Liberty City is the perfect match for the Burnout franchise, which thrives on explosions, destruction, and many of the other hallmarks from the GTA franchise. This joint project, the first in a series of ventures between Take-Two and Electronic Arts, is expected to pave the way to a lucrative partnership between our two companies over the long term.
A release date of Summer 2009 has been issued by Take-Two Interactive. Check out the attached screenshots that Take-Two sent over, or read the press release after the jump.
