Remember Lair? That was supposed to be one of the PlayStation 3's "biggest and best" titles for the time being when it released early last year. Sadly, it was a less than stellar dragon-skinned Star Wars Rogue Squadron clone, with awful controls that were heavily criticized by most players, forcing them to put the controller down and not finish. It did have amazing visuals though. A major letdown for gamers (like me) that had been waiting, and I'm sure a major disappointment to Factor 5 after they saw the scores the game received.
Nearly a year later, Sony has announced that the long awaited and oft-rumored Analog patch is coming, and will hit the Japanese market first on June 17th. The update will add support for an Analog stick-based control scheme, allowing you to actually control the dragons on screen, instead of watching them helplessly flail around, eventually crashing into a castle wall falling to their death. As well, those of us with the spiffy new DualShock 3, Lair will now support glorious rumble feedback. On the download front, two new dragons will be made available, the Wind Dragon and Poison Dragon, which can be used throughout the entire game. That...is pretty cool.
Is this going to be enough to move a few extra copies of a year old title? Possibly, if the game is discounted and marketing re-invigorated, but since the media isn't going to be re-reviewing it, I doubt if a patch will change the minds of most gamers' scorned. I am excited though, and will definitely dig my copy out from the closet it's locked in to try it once more. No word on when the patch will hit North America or Europe, but it's safe to assume it won't be too far off.
