In prepartion for the revamp of the PlayStation Store on Thursday, Sony has announced via the PlayStation Blog that the current store will be taken offline starting later this morning, and will not re-open until tomorrow morning. Neither the PS3 nor PC versions of the store will be accessible during this time.
The outage is somewhat explained as a byproduct of the Thursday upgrade, although Sony isn't entirely spelling that out in their post. Thursday is promising to be a big day, with the launch of the 2.3 firmware, the PlayStation Store revamp, the launch of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and the downloadable Metal Gear Solid 4 beta. And, quite possible, the beta launch of PlayStation Home. Still, a nearly 24 hour shutdown of the Store seems a bit drastic, even for this.
Sony's been hinting at some other surprises for this week. Anyone want to venture a few guesses as to what they might be?
