MTV Games and Harmonix's parent company, Viacom, today announced that Rock Band and its $150 Special Edition bundle has shipped "more than three million bundled units", since November 2007.
The impressive numbers come by way of the company's first quarter earnings report; where it was also revealed that as of the launch of the new, in-game music store, over ten million downloadable songs have been purchased. That means nearly four million addditional songs have been grabbed over Xbox LIVE and PSN since their March claim of six million. Philippe
Dauman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Viacom.
...our Rock Band video game is continuing its successful tour and
is emerging as a valuable long-term franchise. We expect to further
that success with the upcoming release of Rock Band on the Wii
home video game system and our launch in Europe.
I fully expect the Wii version of Rock Band to sell extremely well. However, that being said, I'm not sure it will have as much staying power considering there will be no downloadable content. Hmm, good thing you guys decided to correct that European pricing snafu, huh?
