In addition to all of the lofty details on Resistance 2 that have been revealed over the past few months, Ted Price's demoing of the game at this morning's PlayStation Day shed some new light on the anticipated sequel.
Insomniac is focusing heavily on their "four C's" rule (Community, Campaign, Co-op and Competitive). To help propel the online community forward beyond its already well established place in the PS3 online universe, MyResistance.net - the community site for the game - will be getting "FaceBook - like" makeover later this year. It will even incorporate matchmaking within the site itself. Neat! A quick demo of the multiplayer was shown complete with, um, homages to Halo 3 in the form of "mobile bubble shields on individual soldiers". Only fitting, really, seeing as how they were aiming for this to be Halo-killer for PlayStation 3 multiplayer gaming. Upon looking, though, it appears more of a Rainbow Six: Vegas 2/CoD4 mentality is in place here.
Aside from the already confirmed eight-player co-op single player (which is a separate story line from the main game), 60-player online is still locked down; though Price points out that there will be "battles within battles", since there is such a large number of players in the same match at once. Since they're each given a specific set of objectives, keeping the five sets of squads separated on the battlefield is their goal. "There are always five or six players for whom you develop an intense hatred." A new reward system will also be in place within Resistance 2, one that allows you to unlock new ranks, new gear, and more.
Bottom line...we think it's going to be breaking new ground for the
PS3...but that's just a quarter of the
game.
Resistance 2 is scheduled to hit in November.
[Update]: First ever [alpha] gameplay footage added, after the jump.
