So ive been reading up on this much anticipated game. What are ya'lls view point and stance on this being a hit, and a possible game to change the whole outlook on gaming?

I'm looking forward to it. It looks like something I could get my wife into--with it being QT based, and an in depth story.

I know the story depth is amazing not to mention there is no game over. Your actions just change the story, Amazing is an understatement! All I know is this is something that I definitely wanna check out.

I'll be there day one but I think overall this game will see relatively lackluster sales regardless of quality. It feels weird to say this but there are too many big title coming in jan/feb for a niche title like this to take off. Here's hoping I'm proved wrong.

Just preordered Heavy Rain Special Edition from HMV.

Image

The Collector’s Edition is packaged in a special ‘rain-effect’ slipcase – thanks to special embossing and other manufacturing tricks, it gives the impression of being streaked with 3D rain-drops (something that has confused a lot of people when they’ve seen it lying on my desk recently!).

But cool as that is, that’s not all. The Collector’s Edition also contains a voucher to download the following additional content from the PlayStation Store:

* Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist – Experience Madison’s dangerous investigation in full, before it’s available on the PlayStation Store
* The Heavy Rain Official Soundtrack – Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios, and filled with the powerful orchestral themes that form a key part of the experience of playing Heavy Rain
* Dynamic XMB theme – Lend a little Heavy Rain ambience to your XMB

* Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist – Experience Madison’s dangerous investigation in full, before it’s available on the PlayStation Store
* The Heavy Rain Official Soundtrack – Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios, and filled with the powerful orchestral themes that form a key part of the experience of playing Heavy Rain
* Dynamic XMB theme – Lend a little Heavy Rain ambience to your XMB

All that for the same price as the regular version. Nice!

Still wondering what this game is all about, is it an action game or what? Can't seem to put my finger on what this games all about. Not totally sold on the whole idea from what I've seen in videos.

Heavy Rain is made by the same developer (Quantic Dream) who did Indigo Prophecy (US title - Fahrenheit I think in Europe). The focus of Heavy Rain as with Indigo Prophecy is telling a story where the decisions of the player will have an impact on how the story will play out. The control scheme is different (based on the videos I've seen Heavy Rain will be similar to IP in controls). There is a somewhat heavy reliance on quick time events plus some unique controls. For example, in one sequence in IP you had to climb a pipe. To do this you would move the analog stick to the outside edge then rotate it either clockwise or counter-clockwise to simulate a hand over hand climb.

IP was a great game but fell a little short of its promise. Most decisions that were not favorable led to the game ending with the main character being arrested or dying or some other unhappy fate. In Heavy Rain you will play as multiple people and your actions may cause one or more of them to die or meet some other game ending fate for that character but you can continue on as the other characters. The game will be story heavy (pun intended) about the search for the Origami Killer (hence the origami piece on the box art).

Despite not being all that I had hoped with branching story lines, I loved Indigo Prophecy. Heavy Rain is one of the major reasons I own a PS3. With the exception of Alan Wake there is no other game releasing in the first half of this year (that I know about, anyway) that I'm anticipating more than Heavy Rain. The game has an announced release date of February 23rd if I recall correctly.

Watch this video of the intro to Indigo Prophecy for a feel of how Heavy Rain will likely play - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1qUzXduT-Y
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. ;)

Whenever I get a PS3 Heavy Rain will be one of the first game I'll be picking up, along with Infamous and Little Big Planet (I'm curious).

problem i have is that i refuse to pay £40 for any game (except maybe Fifa) games to me are just way overpriced i just don't get enough free time to play them hardcore anymore, i hope to play Heavy Rain when i can pick it up on the cheap but i fear that i'll no doubt have numerous spoilers thrown my way.

I haven't bought into the hype for this game yet. I'd definitely need to try a demo before buying. Probably be a rental at most. I don't think I'll even do that.

I played some of Indigo Prophecy and didn't especially care for it.

While not being really excited about this game I do want to play it. I would be into it mostly for the story progression but I don't like quick time events. That is what keeps me from being all in for this game.

I'm hype for it and ready to go. However I am going to wait for the first wave of review just because I also see how they can really mess this game up. Not saying that has to be 9's and 10's i just want to make sure that it is a playble game and has some substance. I think my wife will be able to dig. This is the kind of stuff I want to see come out on the PS3 experimental high end products.

I'm excited for this game. I'm much looking forward to the level of story-telling concepts that this title will hopefully bring to the table. Fahrenheit had a good storyline at the beginning but got pretty ridiculous towards the end. I hope that this will be a more mature, adult-orientated story-driven game than its predecessor.

I am very excited about this one! I have Indigo Prophecy and loved it. I like the fact that characters have their own special ability and a weakness to go with it. This is a must have for me! :)

i just played the demo, I'm really looking forward to flushing out the story. There is a quicktime event of a fight scene and i was definitely enjoying it, I wonder if I will be emotionally invested in the characters like ME2?

I just hope this game lives up to the hype if so it may well pave the way for more player controlled storytelling in games and that has to be a good thing,

I got into the demo Sunday morning and I was liking it. I dont care for QTE's at all but I didnt mind these for some reason. I think it was because I felt that they gave me a reasonable amount of time to perform them (unlike God of War). The fight was really cool but I got my bootay whipped in some of it. I thought I was hitting all of the buttons on time, but apparently not. I think that all of the little motions could be a little tedious, but we'll see.

I just played the demo and I am intrigued. The only thing that bothered be was that concentrating on the buttons for the QTE during the fight made me sad because I wasn't able to really pay attention to the action fully. I was too focused on what button came up next. Other than that I do think I'll enjoy playing it through at least once.
