The only thing that the iPad brings to the E-Book reader is the color screen but most books are in B/W, the only color items are online e-zines or online newspapers. And with Portable Gaming it fails since it does not fit inside a pocket. But it will push the touch technology to more people at a lower price point but that is its only saving grace. And I was an Apple fan when they had the PowerPc Mac's and when M$ stole the chips away from Apple for the X-box 360 console Apple was forced to go with the less capable Intel Chips that reduced the power of some of the Mac's platforms. I had an Apple Newton and was pissed at Steve Jobs when he killed it and sent the OS to Palm and the hardware niche' was left to M$, it was a sellout for 150mil in cash for lifesupport.

And between infrequent updates and Mass Effect stroking (seriously... everyone is talking about this game), I keep waiting for that issue. I was 48 hour banned with Pee Wee Herman taunts. Now, I'm disgusted and repulsed and I'm white. That's the unique angle this podcast could have had. Whether MS can do anything about it our not doesn't mean the subject should never be broached. Other podcasts talk about this issue but frankly Sarcastic Gamer or Joystiq doesn't have the same feeling towards this issue. How could they? How could I? And as long as the gamer community, as a whole, doesn't confront this issue, it's supporting it by inaction. That's my feelings anyway. Of course I'm one of the cowards that, instead of dealing with it every time, I just quit Live, play online on PC and PS3 where thankfully, there aren't as many headsets thus much lower chance of jackassery.

But here's the part you're forgetting when looking at iPad vs. Kindle. Kindle is a dedicated ebook reader with a special screen which encourages prolonged viewing of the digital page since it's similar to contrast as real paper. iPads display does not. iPad is every bit as harsh on the eyes as watching TV in a dark room. Kindles designed for books, iPad is practically homebrew on PSP level of thought process. Don't take the plunge day 1 for the book feature, see if someone you know has a kindle you can look over and see the advantage. For me, in general, never been a big Apple guy. I don't like paying for something and having a company tell me how I can use it (for example, why can't I just drag and drop MP3s onto the iPods music folder.. why do I have to go through iTunes?). I also had a first gen iPod Nano that turned me off from the whole experience. I was hoping iPad would have been a tablet PC that I've been waiting for. You know, great graphics features of Apple, possibly Wacom technology, compatibility with Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, and Sketchbook Pro.. but what they gave me was brushes. While that's impressive on some level, not for the functionality I want it for. I'm not counting it out yet, as you said... it's all in the software.
